And get my car - Surround sound installation with a collection micro-speakers in an immersive visual array. This piece uses sonic material from the crosswalks outside of Royal Academy of Music along Marylebone Road, a location with incredibly high pollution levels and a place of recent focus and activism. Incidentally, while I was recording a person walked by and said, “I need to run home and get my car.” This statement perfectly captured the essence of the piece and the speech itself can be occasionally heard in various levels of clarity or obscurity. The street sounds are distorted both electronically and through the exhibit’s glass casings, creating multiple levels of sonic manipulation. Additionally, the sculptures in the glass casings incorporate various levels of noise and distortions and emulate the levels of clarity and distortion that is heard in the piece.
Designed for and commissioned by the Royal Academy of Music Museum in March-May 2018.
